Arusha, January 13, 2012(FH) -A month after judicial recess at the International Criminal Court (ICC), trials are set to beginning next week, while at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), the first hearing has been scheduled at the end of January.

Resumption of Bemba's trial: The trial of Jean-Pierre Bemba is expected to resume on Wednesday (January 18). The prosecution is expected to present its witnesses against the Congolese senator and leader of Movement for Liberation of Congo, who is charged with crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Central African Republic between 2002 and 2003.

Kenya confirmation of charges ruling: The pre-trial judges will deliver this week their decision on six Kenyan officials suspected of crimes against humanity committed after the Presidential election in 2007. The judges would decide whether to confirm or not the charges against the six officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, Head of Civil Service Francis Muthaura and former Police Chief Mohamed Hussein Ali. Others are former Higher Education Minister William Ruto, former Minister for Industrialization Henry Kosgey and radio journalist Joshua arap Sang.

Ngirabatware trial resumption: The trial of former Rwandan planning minister Augustin Ngirabatware marks the first hearing before the ICTR this year. The trial resumes on January 30, when the defence will continue presenting its case.
