17.02.12 - WEEKLY PREVIEW - NGIRABATWARE, BEMBA TRIALS RESUME NEXT WEEK

Arusha, February 17, 2012 (FH) -Trials of Augustin Ngirabatware and Jean-Pierre Bemba, resume next week before the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and at the International Criminal Court (ICC), respectively.

Resumption of Ngirabatware trial: The case of former Rwandan Planning Minister Augustin Ngirabatware resumes on Monday (February 20) when one of the remaining two defence witnesses is expected to testify. Ngirabatware is charged with conspiracy to commit genocide, genocide or in the alternative, complicity in genocide, direct and public incitement to commit genocide, extermination and rape as crimes against humanity.

Resumption of Bemba's trial: The case against Jean-Pierre Bemba is expected to resume on Wednesday (February 22) and the prosecution is set to field its last witness, who will testify via video link from Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Already 39 witnesses have testified to support charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Central African Republic in 2002 and 2003, for which the Congolese senator and leader of Movement for Liberation of Congo is accused of.
