Kigali, February 29, 2012 (FH) - The number of genocide convicts in Rwandan prisons amounts to 39.572, the Rwandan Correctional services (RCS) announced on Wednesday.

Convicted perpetrators of genocide represent 67.7% of the overall number -  58,381 - of Rwandan prisoners serving their sentences in 13 different detention centers.

Only 6% of the detainees are female.

In the aftermath of the genocide, more than 120,000 people had been arrested for their alleged participation in the genocide.
