14.04.12 - ICC/DRC - KABILA WILLING TO ARREST NTAGANDA, NOT TO HAND HIM OVER TO THE ICC

Arusha, March 13, 2012 (FH) – Speaking publicly in Goma on Wednesday, Joseph Kabila said DRC had "more than a hundred reasons to arrest" Bosco Ntaganda, but added that his government would not be forced to act "under pressure from the international community", Radio Okapi reported.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against him in 2006 for enlisting and conscripting children under 15 in a rebel movement in Ituri.

A former leader of the Forces patriotiques pour la liberation du Congo (FPLC), Ntaganda was integrated into the Congolese army under a 2009 peace deal, in which he received Kinshasa's protection against the ICC warrant and rank of general.

However, Ntaganda is among several officers involved in a recent mutiny in Eastern DRC.

"I do not work for the international community but for Congolese people," Kabila said in Goma, adding that the former rebel leader would be judged in Congo.
