The confirmation of charges hearing was initially scheduled on August 13, 2012.

On June 26, 2012, defence requested three medical experts to proceed with medical investigation of Gbagbo to determine whether he is fit enough to take part in the proceedings against him.

In its decision the Chamber ordered the Prosecutor and the Defence to submit their observations on the reports, respectively by August 13 and 21,2012.

‘’In the light of the importance of the issue, the Chamber decided to postpone the confirmation of charges hearing until such issue is resolved,’’ the statement reads.

Laurent Gbagbo is held in The Hague as part of an investigation into crimes against humanity committed during the 2010 post-electoral violence in Côte d'Ivoire.
