French court jails white supremacist for Nazi salute

A French court on Monday jailed a self-avowed white supremacist for nine months for making a Nazi salute at an earlier trial.

Alexis Issaurat, 37, made the salute when he was found guilty in February of making racist insults and defending crimes against humanity and genocide in posts on the Telegram channel.

Issaurat said his gesture had been that of a Roman gladiator and that he had been copying Elon Musk, the billionaire advisor to US President Donald Trump who made an arm gesture at a Washington conference that he denied was a salute.

But the prosecutor told the Paris court there was "no doubt about the defendant's intention".

Issaurat, who was extradited from Bosnia last year, had already been jailed for one year for earlier hate speech offences.
