Time for the truth in Gambia

Since January 2019, Gambians have been glued to the public hearings of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC). This commission was established to shed light on human rights violations committed during the military regime of Yahya Jammeh from July 1994 to January 2017. JusticeInfo.net brings together in a special focus its intensive coverage of what can be considered the event of the year 2019 in the field of transitional justice.

In Gambia, reconciliation still on the back burner
The final report of Gambia’s Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission was expected today, but may be further delayed. After nearly three years of transitional justice, the country remains divided, and reconciliation within communities has hardly been a priority. The cancer of distrust affects even Jammeh’s own family.
