Time for the truth in Gambia

Since January 2019, Gambians have been glued to the public hearings of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC). This commission was established to shed light on human rights violations committed during the military regime of Yahya Jammeh from July 1994 to January 2017. JusticeInfo.net brings together in a special focus its intensive coverage of what can be considered the event of the year 2019 in the field of transitional justice.

Is The Gambia a step closer to moving on with trials and reparations?

On May 12, the Gambian president Adama Barrow has issued an implementation plan of the 2021 recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission. He has announced a 9-million euro pledge by the European Union. After it stalled, some hope Gambia’s transitional justice process can get back on track.
